Extreme heat: avoid sun exposure
Stay in a cool place and avoid going out during the hottest part of the day.
Protect yourself
- Stay out of direct sun, seek shade or air-conditioning, especially 11:00–16:00.
- Drink water regularly; avoid alcohol and excess caffeine.
- Avoid strenuous activity. If you must go out, wear loose clothing, a hat and sunscreen.
- Check on older people, young children and anyone living alone or with chronic illness.
Possible heat exhaustion
Heavy sweating, weakness, headache, dizziness, nausea, cramps or intense thirst: move to a cool place, loosen clothing, cool with wet cloths and offer small sips of water.

Heatstroke is an emergency
Confusion, seizures, fainting or loss of consciousness can mean heatstroke.
Call 112Move the person to a cooler place and cool them with wet cloths, gentle water spray and a fan. Do not give fluids if consciousness is altered.
